Dr Daniel Suarez graduated with my MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oviedo in 2015 while spending time at ITMA Materials Technology developing alloys and processing designs for high speed rail track material (Arcelor Mittal) and for windmill power shafts.

In 2016,  Dr Suarez obtained an MSc in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Sheffield and then joined the Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Metallic Systems (EPSRC). In 2021 he joined Alloyed, a company focused on developing new alloys for Additive Manufactruing applications.

Past Research Focus

While at Sheffield, Dr Suarez's research focused on understanding the effects of upstream forging and machining in critical aerospace components, such as jet engine parts. This project was sponsored by one of the most important UK jet engine manufacturers, Rolls-Royce.

By analysing different machining parameters and understanding their effects on component life, more efficient machining processes can be designed which will increase the production rate of these aerospace components so that the future demand for planes may be met.

Moreover, this research centred on studying machining data that it can be analysed in inline processes, analysing all components without offline inspections, saving time and money while enhancing quality and safety.
