My PhD runs in collaboration with Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, CCFE. It focuses on the use of small punch testing as a way of analysing new structural materials for nuclear fusion reactors. Due to the limited amount of material available for testing, small-scale testing will be a vital part of the development of next generation of nuclear reactors.
I work mainly with the finite element software Abaqus along with the coding language Python. It is hoped that running simulations of small punch testing will help better understand the complex deformation involved.
